Looking fine by 2009 Week 1

The original purpose of this blog was to help keep me motivated to get into better shape.

That lasted roughly 2 weeks.

However, now my dear friend Jen at Daily Mish Mash has this great little thing going on. She's got a group of like-minded people together to help keep each other motivated to stay strong in our epic battle with the bulge.

So I'm going to once more make the attempt to whip myself into shape.
I have the flu at the moment, so I'm not up to too much today. I promise to return later this week with a before picture and more details of just how I plan to fight this battle.

Until then, please feel free to link up and join us on our journey!

Oh, I almost forgot...Jen wanted to know-
What is your favorite type of exercise? How often do you workout? How do you find the time and motivation to keep up with it?

My favorite type of exercise? That's tough because I can't stand exercise in general. I enjoy water aerobics and walking at least a little though. Stationary bikes seem to work ok for me as well.

How often do I workout? Um...about once every 6 months maybe? Especially now that I no longer have a gym membership.

How do you find the time and motivation to keep up with it? I was hoping someone else could tell me that.

Is there an exercise out there that is free and requires no machines or doo dads or effort at all on my part? :) That'd be my kind of exercise.

Glad you're joining in - maybe if we all are "holding each other accountable" something will come of all this?

Also, hope you feel better soon - having the flu is no fun. :)

Sorry to hear you are sick! I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for posting about the challenge. I will add your link to my sidebar later this evening.

Your exercise habits sound very similar to mine. Hopefully we can change that together.

Jen--I think the free exercise that requires no machines/doo dads would be good old fashioned walking or jogging. Kind of boring, but it gets the job done.

Up until this past year, I've never excised regularly in my life. No sports, nothing.

The difference for me came when I bought a book on running (and after gaining 30 pounds and not fitting into any of my clothes...). I decided running would be perfect-- solitary, outside, free (except for the sneakers). But, I realized soon that my knees were in bad shape, so I had to give up on it soon after I started out.

Then, Jo and I joined the local Y together. A family membership was about the same as a gym membership for one of us, so it seemed worth the money. And going together helped. I made a commitment to go every other day, no matter what, and spend 30 minutes on the elliptical trainer, working my way up to an hour. And you know what did the trick? In my calendar, I gave myself a star sticker for every time I went. No shit. A silly sticker like teachers give in elementary school. But it worked! Yeah, sometimes I skip a day when I get really busy, but generally I go 3-4 times per week.

And once I started going, I noticed that I slept better after I worked out, and that I was less stressed out in general. Now I kind of *crave* going when I get stressed out. If I run around doing too much for others, I have to take time for me and just go work out. After this winter, I think I'll try running again.

Good luck!

Hiya! I've joined in on the challenge as well. Hopefully we'll all be able to keep each other motivated :)

I do sorta like working out but not on a consistent basis LOL! I do good for about two weeks and think "this is fun! I like this!" and then I fizzle out. I'm really hoping to stick with the exercise this go round!
