Labor of Love

This morning I noticed that a lot of my bloggy buddies were participating in this fun little Meme that was started at Rocks in My Dryer. It looked like fun, so I decided to join in.

How long were your labors?

Well, there's only been one so far, but it was a doozy.
Not counting the minor contractions that I had been having all day without realizing that they were contractions...I was in labor in the hospital for 20 hours.

How did you know you were in labor?

I went into the hospital to be induced. They gave me cervadil and told me that I had to wait 12 hours for it to ripen my cervix and then they were going to start pitocin.
My husband and Mom went home to get some sleep. As I was laying in the bed too nervous and excited to sleep, I noticed that the pain I had in my back was flaring up almost exactly every 2 minutes. I sat there and counted out the contractions for about 45 minutes just to be sure before I called the nurse in.

Where did you deliver?

At a hospital about 10 minutes from our house.

Drugs?

I made them give me nubain about 14-15 hours in. They had broken my water and were giving me pitocin, but I wasn't progressing so they wouldn't give me an epidural. It was just enough to let me get about 1 hour of sleep.

C-section?

Yep. I never made it to 2 cm after the 20 hours, so my doctor decided it was time to get her out. I was terrified of having a c-section before hand, but after 20 hours of back labor I was about ready to grab a scalpel and do it myself! I think that I still have very strong feelings for the anesthesiologist! (Don't know his name, but that's not really the point, is it?)

Who delivered?

My totally awesome OB/GYN. I was a "High Risk" pregnancy so we got to see each other quite a lot. She took great care of us. I am 100% convinced that my pregnancy would not have gone nearly as well if I had gone to a different doctor. Loved her!

Now head on over to Rocks In My Dryer to link up and join in the fun!

Wow, that sounds pretty exciting! ;) Thanks for sharing! I am due in less than 4 weeks and have had fun reading all these stories thanks to RIMD. My friends are leaving advice for me on our blog this week if you'd like to stop by and share some words of wisdom! :)
