First of all, I have to tell you that I generally hate commercials. I almost always change the channel to avoid watching them. When I do actually watch them I very rarely pay attention to them or even notice what it is they are trying to sell. However, every once in a while someone gets it right.
Somebody on the marketing team for Chevy obviously knew that there were going to be millions and millions of women watching to see Michael Phelps make Olympic history tonight and apparently believes that woman have a lot more to say about purchasing vehicles than we did in the past.
In the final commercial break just before the Men's 4X100 Medley Relay they ran an ad for the Brand new 2009 Chevy Traverse. I just found this quote regarding Chevy's marketing strategy for this new crossover vehicle...
"The message is that Chevy believes the Traverse is everything you wished for ... and then some - and the ads include imagery that is sure to quicken the pulse of many female viewers, a key target market of the crossover."
Now, I'm really not clear on how going out and buying one of these glorious vehicles is going to land me a really hot man who remembers things like 6 month anniversaries and does the ironing for me...but they certainly got my attention!
Kudos to you marketing genius, whoever you may be.
PS- Congratulations to Michael Phelps and the rest of the U.S. Swim team! You certainly delivered the goods and made this country proud! Plus you did it with grace and humility. Well done.
